The academic year is ending on a literary high note for many high school students in Chicago, Illinois.
In celebration of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards and Britannica’s 250th anniversary, Britannica Digital Learning will donate A Few Red Drops: The Chicago Race Riot of 1919 to every Chicago Public School high school library. The Coretta Scott King award-winning book, written by Claire Hartfield, is a powerful contribution to modern literature that provides eye-opening, balanced coverage of moments in history.
Sponsored by the American Library Association, the Coretta Scott King Book Awards recognizes outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. Britannica is proud to be an annual sponsor in recognizing those making a difference in the literary world and is excited to donate to Chicago Public Schools for the second year in a row.
Britannica Digital Learning will also personally present Claire Hartfield with the Author Award on Sunday, June 23, at the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Breakfast Banquet, which takes place during the American Library Association Annual Conference and Exhibition in Washington, D.C.
“I have written this book to encourage us to remember and, in doing so, to learn from our mistakes.”
Claire Hartfield
