Britannica and the National Association for Media Literacy Education offer free media-making workshops for high-school students

Britannica Digital Learning, along with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), will host two free media-making workshops for high school students on exploring civic engagement and video storytelling, June 26th and June 27th, at the National Media Literacy Conference in Washington, D.C.

Exploring Civic Engagement

Student Voice in Action

Wednesday, June 26 – 1pm โ€“ 5pm

American University

Join Britannica Digital Learning for a youth media-making workshop to explore civic engagement and to hone media-literacy skills. Using Britannicaโ€™s new digital storytelling platform, LumieLabs, students will have a chance to participate in a workshop led by 22X20, a national initiative that aims to activate and facilitate an increased and a more diverse youth voice in the democratic process through media making in the lead-up to the 2020 election.

Whatโ€™s Your Story?

Intro to Video Storytelling with LumieLabs

Thursday, June 27 – 10:30am – 3:30pm

American University

Join Britannica Digital Learning for a hands-on digital storytelling workshop to explore, collaborate, and create. Visual communication is the language of teenagers. This workshop will allow students to take a step back, reflect, and challenge themselves to think about the stories they tell. Using LumieLabs, students will create their own video content exploring the questions: How is my identity shaped by the stories I tell about myself through media? What stories do I want to hear about my generation and what role can I play in constructing those narratives?

Britannica Digital Learning is dedicated to helping students become well-equipped, critical, and thoughtful consumers of media and news. ย

โ€œMedia literacy is a critical 21st-century skill that encompasses access to analysis and creation of media in a variety of forms,โ€ said Karthik Krishnan, CEO of Encyclopรฆdia Britannica. โ€œBesides knowing how to consume media critically and intelligently, students must also be able to create stories and presentations that express what they know and contribute to the conversation.โ€
