Britannica Publishes New PreK-6 E-Books

June 20, 2013

Hundreds of titles supporting Common Core, state curriculum standards now available

Britannica Digital Learning has just published 365 new non-fiction e-books for grades preK-6 in a wide range of school subjects, the company announced today.

The collection is especially strong in non-fiction titles that support the new Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, as well as state curriculum guidelines. All e-books are age-appropriate with indications of Guided Reading and Lexile levels, extensively illustrated and designed to be enjoyable and engaging to students. Topics covered range widely and include animals, colors, holidays, elementary math concepts, astronomy, sports, famous people and hundreds of others. Fifty of the titles are available either in bilingual versions (Spanish and English) or Spanish only.

Britannica e-books are rigorously prepared by Encyclopaedia Britannica’s education editors and contributors and provide schools and libraries with a large selection of high-quality texts for classroom study, independent reading, and research.

“Student performance expectations are rising, and with that schools need more high-quality non-fiction sources for the classroom and library,” said Michael Ross, general manager of Britannica Digital Learning and a senior vice president at Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. “Our growing collection will meet that need superbly.”

Ross said the company would also introduce its new “Read with Rigor” e-book club at the American Library Association meetings in Chicago later this month. Membership, which is free, will give schools and libraries access to discounts and special offers on Britannica e-books as well as activities for students and other benefits.

Britannica e-books are whiteboard ready, making them ideal for classroom use. They can be accessed 24/7 by students, their parents, teachers and library patrons through any Web connection. They require no special reading device and can be read on a PC, tablet computer or smart phone, online or downloaded. All titles in a school’s or library’s holdings can be searched with a single keyword. Password-protected notes can be saved and the material can be printed.

The new e-titles represent a significant addition to Britannica’s already formidable e-book list, which now numbers close to a thousand. The first 15 pages of each Britannica title are available free at ebooks.eb.com. Further information about pricing, titles and more is available at 1-800-621-3900.
