ASK Britannica makes it simple to ask questions, find answers and explanations, and explore Britannica’s vast knowledge base – transforming curiosity into a powerful tool for learning and discovery.
What Is ASK Britannica?
We’ve combined AI technology with Britannica’s trusted collection of content to give students the opportunity to ask questions and receive concise, accurate answers directly from our reliable knowledge base. ASK Britannica uses natural language processing to interpret queries and pulls insights only from Britannica’s extensive library of articles.
For example, if a student asks “Why haven’t humans landed on Mars?” they’ll get a short summary powered by AI, but sourced exclusively from Britannica’s carefully vetted resources.
Along with the answer, ASK Britannica cites its sources, allowing users to explore the original material to gain a deeper understanding. Additionally, students can access suggested follow-up questions to guide further exploration, helping them navigate complex concepts and expand their knowledge.
Britannica’s Approach to AI
As AI technology evolves, we understand there may be questions around its role in education. At Britannica, we’re committed to using technology responsibly. ASK Britannica has been designed to enhance rather than replace the educational process – complementing, not substituting, the exploration of our enormous knowledge base.
What ASK Britannica IS NOT:
- It is NOT open source.
- It will NOT write papers or essays for students.
- It will NOT answer inappropriate queries outside of its educational scope.
How to access ASK Britannica
ASK Britannica is launching in February as a secondary search function within Britannica Academic, offering university students and faculty a more efficient way to research and find accurate, relevant answers.
Later in the year, we’ll offer access to this technology at additional educational levels, with a launch planned for the High School level within Britannica School, available to schools that opt to include it in their subscription.
